Thomas Kühne is a pediatric oncologist/hematologist and graduated 1985 at the medical faculty of the University of Basel, Switzerland. He obtained his M.D. in 1988 and his certificates in pediatrics and pediatric oncology/hematology in 1992 and 1996. In 2002 he received his venia docendi (habilitation) with the thesis “Quantitative and qualitative aspects of platelets in bleeding disorders of children”. In 2008 he became professor for pediatric oncology/hematology. He is acting head of oncology/hematology at the University Children’s Hospital, Basel, Switzerland. He is board member of the Ethics Committee of Northwestern Switzerland, and a member of several societies and a co-chairman of the Intercontinental Cooperative ITP Study Group (ICIS). The co-author of numerous peer-reviewed articles, he is an associate editor of the Journal of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, and an editorial board member for Pediatric Blood & Cancer and Paediatrica.
