Dr Tadej Avčin works as a Consultant Paediatric Rheumatologist and Head of the Department of Allergology, Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology at the Children’s Hospital, University Medical Center Ljubljana, Slovenia.
He graduated in medicine from the University of Ljubljana in 1996 and completed his residency in paediatrics at the Children’s Hospital, University Medical Center Ljubljana in 2003. Dr Avčin completed his fellowship in paediatric rheumatology at the Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto, Canada between 2004 and 2005. In 2004 he became an Associate Professor and in 2010 Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Medicine.
His main interest is paediatric rheumatology with an emphasis on juvenile idiopathic arthritides and systemic connective tissue diseases. He is the Principal Investigator of the International Registry of Paediatric Antiphospholipid Syndrome and Chairman of the Education and Training committee of the Paediatric Rheumatology European Society. Dr Avčin is the author of more than 75 peer-reviewed articles and five book chapters on paediatric rheumatology.
