Andras Arato

Andras Arató is professor of paediatrics at the First Department of Paediatrics, Semmelweis University in Budapest.  He graduated at this university in 1977. He was also trained there in paediatrics and gastroenterology. He studied the distribution of lymphocyte subsets in the intestinal mucosa of children with celiac disease and performed his PhD thesis on “Immunological changes in celiac disease” in 1989. Since 1990 to 2011 he was the head of the Paediatric Gastroenterological Unit and since 2007 he is the vice chairman of the First Department of Paediatrics, Semmelweis University. He got DSc for his contribution to research in immunopathogenesis of celiac disease and inflammatory bowel disease. He is interested in mucosal immunology and infant’s nutrtition.

He was member of ESPGHAN’s Council from 2005 to 2009. He was the congress president of the 42th ESPGHAN Annual Meeting in Budapest, in 2009.
