Prof. dr. Rok Orel is consultant in pediatric gastroenterology and a head of the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the Children’s Hospital of the University Medical Center Ljubljana, Slovenia. He is professor of pediatrics at Faculty of Medicine and professor of nutrition at Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana.
Prof. Orel is a member of Gastrointestinal Committee of the European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) and one of the most active members of several ESPGHAN’s working groups. He is a president of the South Eastern European Pediatric Gastroenterology (SEEPEG) and a director of the Institute for Probiotics and Functional Foods.
His main fields of interest and research are pediatric inflammatory bowel disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, eosinophilic esophagitis and gastrointestinal allergies, functional gastrointestinal disorders, nutrition, and intestinal microbiota, probiotics and prebiotics.
